Is boating allowed on the lake at Foots Cray Meadows?
Foots Cray Meadows is a designated Local Nature Reserve and boating of any kind is not permitted. However, there is a range of water-based activities, including fishing, that are allowed not far away at Danson Park (also within the Bexley Borough).
Is horse riding allowed on the Meadows?
There is a “permitted ride” on part of the Meadows and horse riding is NOT allowed anywhere else. The route is clearly marked with white-topped posts and riders are required to act responsibly to others using the Meadows.
Are barbecues allowed on the Meadows?
Foots Cray Meadows is a designated Local Nature Reserve and Barbecues are NOT allowed anywhere on the Meadows, due to fire risks.
Is there anywhere to park at Foots Cray Meadows?
There is limited parking in the designated carpark in Rectory Lane (What3words reference: rank.feared.herbs). Alternatively, there is on-street parking in Leafield Lane (off North Cray Road), as well as other nearby streets. Please be considerate to local residents when parking.
How do we report illegal fishing at the Meadows?
In accordance with Government advice, poaching and illegal fishing should be reported to the Environment Agency and the Police.
Are there any accessible toilets or refreshment facilities at Foots Cray Meadows?
Unfortunately there are no public toilets or refreshment facilities on the Meadows. However, the White Cross Inn - a public house and a cafeteria/restaurant - is nearby (off the North Cray Road) where both facilities may be found. Their use is dependent on their respective permissions and opening times.
Can the Friends group help facilitate school visits to the Meadows?
We are a Children’s University learning destination and actively encourage School visits to the Meadows and the River Cray. Please send an email to ffcm06@gmail.com for further information on how the Friends of Foots Cray Meadows may be able to facilitate your school visit.
